DanFoss Company History

DanFoss VFD Drives have an illustrious 65 year history of excellence in business that started in Denmark in 1933 with production of a variety of ARV (Air Relief) and TRV (Thermal Relief) valves.  Succeeding years saw the introduction of a number of additional valves, thermostat products and filters.  Expansion saw this company with dealers in over half a dozen European countries by 1939.  It acquired its present name in 1946 coincident with its opening of their Copenhagen offices. 

 By the early 50s they had moved internationally and further expanded the product base.  By 1998 DanFoss broke into the electronic power module market. It had experienced a continued fifty year blooming in product line and world expansion.  Between 1998 and 2006 there were over thirty-seven major new international acquisitions and additional establishment of factories, including in China. 

 Within North America, DanFoss established several divisions focused on motion control applications.  Their three primary sectors of emphasis for DanFoss VFD Drives includes HVAC fans and pumps, Water / Wastewater, and Industrial (material handling, food, and beverage.)  DanFoss continues to be a family-owned, global company that is privately held.
