Call us today at 510-490-2187. Woods VFD AvailabilityTB Wood's has been producing quality products for over a century and a half. Initially it was a producer of wood burning stoves. But by the turn of the 20th century TB Wood's had entered the power product arena with flat belted drives and line shafting. In the 1930's v-belt drives systems were introduced and from that time on Wood's has been a leading innovator in v-belt drives. The 50's saw the introduction of synchronous timing belt driven systems and variable speed pulleys. Wood's also brought the Sure-Flex coupling to the market. In the late 60's Wood's innovated DC controls dedicated to servicing in harsh manufacturing environments. In the 70's Wood's allied with Uniroyal to produce and market high torque drives. They also brought out a line of synchronous belt drive systems. By the mid 80's Wood's had brought out its line of AC inverters. The 1990's saw further expansion with the innovation of a series of AC inverters and synchronous drives. An acquisition brought Wood's into the mechanical variable speed drive arena. By 1994 the company had originated a micro AC drive and later in the decade expanded its coupling line. In 2007 Wood's was acquired by Altra Holdings, Inc. Also in that year its electronic business passed into the hands of Vacon, who supplies adjustable speed drives. Woods VFDs are now produced under that company's name. However, its affiliation with Vacon actually goes back to the mid 90's when an agreement allowed WB Wood's to sell Vacon products under its own Woods VFD name as part of its variable speed drive product line. Vacon had a strong start in the 90's when a number of entrepreneurs originally associated with ABB formed Vacon. Since that time it has grown and with the acquisition of TB Wood's became a global company.
